LAHORE: Lahore High Court on Wednesday expressed immense displeasure over the failure to present an inquiry report over the leak of the entry test of a medical university.
Justice Shahid Wahid was hearing the application filed by students who stated that the entry test of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) was leaked causing immense hardship to hardworking, intelligent and merit-based students.
They maintained that the leak had also deprived certain students from a equal opportunity to seek education. The applicants had appeared in the Medical & Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) for 2017 admissions.
High Education Commission counsel informed the court that the university’s Vice-Chancellor, despite being the head of the institution, had not fulfilled his responsibility. He said the matter will be clarified if the court seeks inquiry report from the Federal Investigation Agency.
The court expressed immense displeasure over the failure to submit the inquiry report. It also dismissed a plea by the public prosecutor seeking more time to submit the report.
The court directed the chief secretary to immediately appear personally and submit the report. Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Saeed turned up but did not bring the report. He pleaded to be granted an additional two days as the matter is being investigated and they will reach a conclusion soon.
The court remarked that admission in medical universities is ongoing, and a further delay will not be tolerated as the future of students cannot be at stake. The court adjourned the matter for two days and directed the Punjab chief secretary to submit the report.
