I.G. Jails Punjab who appeared before the court during hearing of a petition regarding arrest of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), informed the court that 551 persons have been detained across the province including 225 workers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and 309 PAT workers.
Replying the court’s query about the reason of detention the top jail official failed to give a satisfactory reply and said that none of the detainees has been arrested on political grounds.
The bench ordered the I.G. Prisons to submit detailed reasons of detention of political workers and adjourned the hearing till September 25.
A bench of LHC in another case rejected a contempt of court plea against Punjab’s Minister of Law Rana Mashood and I.G. Police Punjab.
