The hearing into the case was conducted by Justice Shahid Kareem in the chair.

The petitioner claimed that Rs 250 billion loan was being taken for the project that equates to budget of a province.

He said people were deprived of better health facilities, while the rulers were frittering away millions for a particular segment of society amounting to just two percent.

The petitioner told the court that at least 27 deaths had occurred at different construction sites of Orange Line Metro Train’s track due to lack of safety measures during construction of the project.

He also accused the government for not issuing tenders, but awarded contract to one of its favourite firms.

Attorney General told the court that new ‘no objection certificate’ had been issued for the project, hence the court allow resumption of work.

The petitioner argued, saying how could attorney general intervene in the matter of Orange Line project.

The court ordered the government and the petitioner to submit new names for committee to probe deaths of people so that new body could be constituted.

The hearing was adjourned till June 28.
