M. Ashraful, Naveed Arif handed ban for fixing

Former Bangladesh Captain, Mohammad Ashraful, has been banned for eight years for his involvement in fixing in the 2013 season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), while Pakistan’s Naveed Arif, the former Sussex player banned for life time by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), ARY News has learnt.

The disciplinary tribunal on Wednesday banned Ashraful for eight years (three years suspended)after being found guilty in match fixing in the 2013 season of the BPL.

Ashraful had already admitted about fixing the match played between Dhaka and Chittagong in 2013 edition of BPL.
He has asked forgiveness from his fans worldwide for committing the crime of match fixing hoping that he will be forgiven.

Furthermore, the anti corruption tribunal also banned two foreign players namely, former New Zealand batsman Lou Vincent for three-year for failure to report an approach and Sri Lanka batsman Kaushal Lokuarachchi for 18 months for the same offence.

Naved was handed a life-time ban by ECB after he admitted breaching the board’s Anti-Corruption Code.

According to ECB, “Arif pleaded guilty to six breaches of the Code, all of which related to corrupt activity in connection with the CB40 fixture between Sussex and Kent at Hove in August 2011.”

Following the ban, Arif will now not be able to play, coach or participate in any form of cricket recognised by the ECB, the ICC or any other national board.

Arif, 32, represented Pakistan A in 2009 on a tour of Australia. He played for Sussex as an English-qualified player by virtue of a Danish wife.He was playing for Little Stoke in the North Staffordshire and South Cheshire League at the start of the English club season before a temporary suspension was imposed in April 2014.
