Magnetic Ink: ECP rejects Interior Minister’s statement


ISLAMABAD: The election commission of Pakistan has rejected a statement of federal interior minister over the use of magnetic ink in elections, ARY News reported on Monday.

Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Ishtiak Ahmed Khan in a statement said that the magnetic ink was used throughout the country during the elections and the record of dispatch of the ink is available with the election commission. 

The provincial election commissioners’ sent magnetic ink to all returning officers. 

The Secretary ECP said that the magnetic ink was prepared according to the standards set by NADRA. He said iron particles were used in magnetic ink. He said 4.5 Lac pads of the magnetic ink were used by the election commission in the general elections. 

Interior Minister in a press conference yesterday said that magnetic ink was not used in general elections. 

The discovery that magnetic ink was not used in some constituencies in the May 2013 general elections has given rise to a controversy.
