Malala awarded EU Sakharov Human Rights Prize

Strasbourg: Pakistani schoolgirl and education promoter Malala Yousufzai was awarded the prestigious European Union’s Sakharov Human Rights Prize on Wednesday, ARY News reports.

The award was presented by Martin Shulz, President of the European Parliament.

Malala started her speech with a quote by french philosopher Voltaire “I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.”

After receiving the prize and 50,000 Euros in cash money, Malala Yousufzai said that this price of freedom is prestigeous awrad for her and it gives her encouragement to continue her cause. she further added that Pakistan is marred by terrorism. She stated that This great union of countries is a great example of togatherness and unity. I am hopeful European parliment will look beyond Europe to the suffering countries where people are still deprived of their basic rights, where freedom of thought is supressed and freedom of speech is enchained. many children  have no food to eat, no water to drink and these children are starving for education.

Malala Yousufzai claimed that the world should change its ideology of being powerful. She claimed that power should not be measured by military force but rather literacy rate and how many literate people the country can produce.

Speaking on the occasion, she said that the world should support the suffering countries.

She claimed that every child in Pakistan wants a book and a pen instead of XBOX, Playstation and chocolates.

Malala is the 4th person to receive this award prior to her the recipent of this award are highly prestigeous people like Nelson Mandella, Aung San Suu Kyi and Kofi annan.
