Malala wishes to meet Indian PM Modi

In an interview to Hindustan Times, Malala said it had always been her dream to visit India, from where she has received many letters of support.

“It was my wish that both the prime ministers come for the peace prize ceremony because the two laureates, one was from Pakistan and one from India, Kailash Satyarthi. He is doing amazing work for children’s rights. It would have been a great opportunity for the prime ministers to come but it didn’t happen” she said.

Malala said she would urge Modi to invest more in education and to ensure women are protected from sexual abuse in India.

“It would be a great opportunity to meet the Prime Minister of India and to talk about how we can help, specially girls in India, to provide them protection and education, so that they feel safe in society…this violent crime of girls being sexually abused, how we can end this.”

Malala was flown to Britain for treatment after the Pakistani Taliban tried to kill her in October 2012, and now lives here with her family. Malala became a global icon after the Taliban attack in 2012.

But she remains a figure of hate for many Pakistanis who resent having the country’s problems aired abroad.
