Mary Kom wins big at International Film Festival!

TOP NEWS

Priyanka Chopra has been known to make a splash on the international stage every now and then with her voice. However, the former Miss World has another feather to her cap; Mary Kom won the Best Film award at the Stockholm International Film Festival!

As expected, Priyanka was ecstatic at the news and announced her jubilation on Twitter.

Biopic of female Indian Olympic medal winning boxer, Mary Kom was released to critical acclaim and worldwide praise last year. The movie, directed by Omung Kumar, featured Priyanka in a macho role as a female boxer. With gigantic obstacles and societal challenges pitted against her, Mary Kom is the story of a young, talented female boxer who fights within as well as outside the ring.

“Mary Kom’ was selected for the Stockholm International Film Festival Junior in Sweden, and we have won the best film award and been given the Bronze Horse award, the highest honour in this festival. The jury was made up of kids ranging from the age of nine to 17 years,” Omung said of the win.

“This award is a very big thing for us because now it will bridge the gap between Sweden and India. We can now distribute our films over here. Mary Kom will again be showcased in Sweden by the Indian Embassy at the Indian Film Festival next month,” added the director further.

Mary Kom had also premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier. These days Chopra is busy shooting for her upcoming movie Bajirao Mastani with Bollywood’s leading stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. In the movie, Priyanka will feature in a key role as one of Ranveer’s two wives and is reportedly also going to feature in a ‘larger-than-life’ dance with the sultry Padukone. Priyanka has also bagged a role in the upcoming American TV series Quantico.

Good luck to Piggy Chops, seems like good times are ahead!
