Mashal was attacked by a vigilante mob in Abdul Wali Khan University in April, incited by rumours, for allegedly “publishing blasphemous content online”. The mass communication student was beaten and shot by the mob and succumbed to the injuries he received.

Mashal’s father complained that no action has been taken against the masterminds of the lynching incident of his victim son.

“The actors have been apprehended but the directors are still out of sight”, Iqbal Khan said.

Lamenting that his son would not return, Iqbal Khan said that he wanted to save other youngsters by bringing the main culprits – who staged the entire plot – to justice.

He thanked the chief justice of the apex court for taking suo motu notice on the matter. “The university administration even did not lodge an FIR”, he said.

It is worth mentioning here that Khyber Pakthunkhwa police claimed to arrest at least 54 suspects for their involvement in the lynching incident at AWKU in Mardan including the four who were arrested yesterday after police combed through videos surfaced in the aftermath of the incident.
