ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has expressed displeasure over the Supreme Court verdict in Panama Leaks case against Nawaz Sharif, ARY News reported.

He said he was surprised that Nawaz was disqualified over the money he did not earn. He termed the top court ruling a conspiracy to halt the development across the country.

“The project of China Pakistan Economic Corridor and other development projects are irking the United States and India,” he said while addressing a press conference on Friday.

He said he thought the final verdict in Panamagate case would be on the basis of huge embezzlement, however it was not the.

“This is unfathomable for me,” he said.

The JUI chief questioned that who could be behind the political crisis in Pakistan and we should see it on the international level.

A five-judge Supreme Court bench disqualified Nawaz Sharif in a unanimous verdict, thus cutting short his third stint in power.

Soon after the SC judgement, the PM House issued a terse statement saying that Nawaz Sharif, despite having reservations on the SC’s verdict, has stepped down from his post as the premier.

Sharif served as prime minister twice in the 1990s before he himself was ousted in a 1999 coup leading to a decade long exile. He won a third term as prime minister in a 2013 election.

According to ARY Islamabad Bureau Chief Sabir Shakir, the apex court has declared Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ineligible to rule in its historic judgement after corruption charges against him and and his family for stashing wealth abroad beyond known sources of income.
