Megaton Rainfall will launch for PlayStation 4 with PlayStation VR support on September 26 and at a later date for Microsoft Windows via Steam.

Alfonso Del Cerro, Developer Pentadimensional Games made the announcement in a blog post about the much awaited single player action game and also released the new trailer for the game.

Megaton Rainfall fills the market gap of “games that let players control an indestructible super being who can fly at supersonic speeds across Earth facing a global alien invasion and preventing the destruction of one city after another.”

At the beginning of the game players can only roam the Earth, from the bottom of the ocean to the stratosphere, looking for threats.

Later, this freedom of movement will increase, letting players fly to the Moon or walk across the surface of the Sun. The game features fully destructible environment, buildings are procedurally generated and destructible.

“This sense of freedom has been one of our major goals during production, as well as the sense of scale of the landscapes, which really shine in VR mode,” says Del Cerro.

Players can optionally play the full experience in PlayStation VR.

With it, flying around an alien mothership several kilometers in size conveys a remarkable sense of scale and danger, which may not be as dangerous as the smaller enemy vessels.

The biggest menace for the humans in Megaton Rainfall is the player himself. Each new superpower gained has a dark side players must avoid.

The basic shot destroys entire buildings every time players miss their target. Player’s telekinesis can prevent enemy grenades from damaging the humans, but it can also send vehicles careening down the street. The gigaton blast can destroy an enemy mothership or the entire city.

That’s why players have to use their abilities carefully or their position on the leader boards (based on time and human casualties (less is better)) will suffer.

Del Cerro , who self-published the game, said that developing a game this complex has been the toughest task he has ever undertaken, and he always wanted the finest quality possible.

This is why they delayed the launch several times and the team, which started with only in his free time back in 2012 has grown quite a bit. Four artists created the enemy ships and city landmarks and the music was also redone.

Additionally, PS4 Pro owners can look forward to enjoying the enormous landscapes in full 4K resolution
