Pakistan’s media industry is going through evolution: Salman Iqbal

KARACHI: President and CEO of ARY Digital Network, Mr. Salman Iqbal, says that the role of media is to report the current happenings, whether it’s good or bad.

Speaking at the conference held under the aegis of World Memon Organization (WMO) in Karachi, Mr. Iqbal said the media in Pakistan was currently going through evolution.

Highlighting the services of Memon community, he said that the community was playing its pivotal role in the field of media as well as in other sectors of the country.

“Pakistani media is still far behind as compared to media outlets of the world. Media firms in most of the countries are ‘controlled,” he underlined.

Mr. Iqbal said women belonging to the Memon community were now joining the media industry.

About the future of the media in Pakistan, the President and CEO of ARY Digital said that there would be more opportunities in the domain of social media that is carving out of the mainstream media.

He said that media is the fourth pillar of the state, which is playing its crucial role in important events in the country.

Mr. Salman Iqbal, while quoting the Prime Minister, said: “Businessmen are born, not manufactured… Memon community is rendering its services in various sectors of Pakistan, he maintained.

He said a major segment of the Memon community was hailing from the upper middle class, who are delivering their expertise in various sectors for the progress of Pakistan.
