Is it Javeria Abbasi’s flawless acting or is it Kiran Tabeer’s multifaceted character or Aroha Khan’s portrayal of an innocent maid? fans are yet to decide what keeps them glued to their screens whenMeri Baji’ airs on ARY Digital.

The drama, based upon the story or you can say stories of housemaids, is breaking viewership records for it takes one on a completely different journey than most of 7PM plays about the typical saas-bahu feuds.

In its 50th episode, the drama hasn’t lost its charm but has in fact multiplied its viewership with the story line getting captivating by every single episode.

The plot revolves around a housemaid Nasreen (played by Javeria Abbasi) who along with her two daughters work in different houses to earn their livelihood.

One of her daughters, Raabi (Kiran Tabeer) get s carried away by the wealth of her lady and her fiance and tries to seduce her fiance while the other, Neelofur (played by Aroha Khan) is a simple girl who loves one of her neighbours but finds that her father wants to sell her.

Chutki, the little one, is studying but her mother forces her to work 24/7 in a household.

The menfolk of Nasreen’s household are useless and earn next to nothing.

As poverty rules the house, her son turns into a street criminal while her husband Sharafat (played by Rashid Farooqui) seldom leaves house to drive his rickshaw, the commercial vehicle her wife bought him.

The drama shows the miserable conditions they work in, their household issues and the abuse they go through by their masters.

‘The stories were already there’

As we asked fans about why they never leave a single episode of the play, they had a variety of opinions but all were of the view that the drama filled a void.

“These stories of maids, the abuse they suffer at the hands of their masters were always there, they just demanded to be told. This drama, however, tells it in a very unique fashion, it is not a sobfest but is bringing everything they go through step by step without turning gory,” said one fan.

Another fan said that the drama has shown ‘all shades of maids’ as Raabi (Kiran Tabeer) is a cunning maid but Neeli (Aroha Khan) is a simple girl who had to even fight for her honour.

Another one remarked that the drama has successfully won the case for the most ’empowered lot of women’ i.e. maids for it aptly showed they can fight all their battles.

“The way Nasreen treats all is how a working woman should do,  she doesn’t respect those who don’t respect her,” said the fan.

Some fans also praised the play for “aptly showing’ how our so-called “educated elite” not only abuses poor maids but also employs childmaids and mistreats them.

‘Meri Baji’ airs Monday to Thursday 7PM on ARY Digital.
