Minister rebuts news regarding PM’s directions to delay Fata Reforms

ISLAMABAD: Minister States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Abdul Qadir Baloch on Thursday rebutted the news run on different TV channels and print media regarding directions of the prime minister for delaying Fata Reforms.

The minister said no instructions, whatsoever, were received by him from the PM to delay the Fata Reform process.

He said that when the Fata Rewaj Act was brought under discussion on May 16, most of the Standing Committee Members demanded more time to consider the Act.

“This demand was discussed by Fata Reforms Committee Members and it was agreed to positively consider it. For that a meeting with the FATA elected members in the office of the minister SAFRON was held on May 17 and a thread bare discussion took place on the Act,” he said.

Abdul Qadir Baloch said the meeting ended on a positive note and the need of more time for further consideration was agreed upon.

Under the recommendations of the reforms committee approved by the Federal Cabinet, the Fata will now be the merged with Khyber Pakhtonkhwa. While the federal government could no longer intervene in matters pertaining to Fata after implementation of the reforms.
