Mohammad Zubair takes oath as Governor of Sindh

KARACHI: Mohammad Zubair Umar sworn in as the 32nd Governor of Sindh on Thursday, ARY News reported.

Chief Justice Sindh High Court Syed Sajjad Ali Shah administered oath to the new governor in the oath-taking ceremony at Governor House here.

Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah attended the oath taking ceremony.

Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Corps Commander Karachi, Director General Rangers Sindh, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Danial Aziz, MQM leaders Farooq Sattar and Khawaja Izhar, and Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar were present on the occasion.

Mohammad Zubair Umar was born on 23rd March 1956 to a military family in Abbottabad. One of his siblings Asad Umar is a prominent figure in opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

He acquired his early education from Abbottabad and Rawalpindi. He completed his Masters in Business Administration in 1984 from Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Karachi.

Zubair joined Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) in 2012 and gained provided expertise to the party in the fields of economic and tax reforms.

After PML-N came into power in 2013, Zubair became the Chairman of Board of Investment and later appointed the Chairman of the Privatization Commission.

His predecessor Justice (retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui passed away after two months on the coveted post marred by illness making him the shortest-serving governor in the history of the province.

Later, the Governor Sindh visited the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to pay his respects and laid a floral wreath at the grave of the Father of the Nation.
