Third-grader’s mom couldn’t solve her math question, was it that difficult?

An eight-year-old child’s mother was left puzzled when she couldn’t work out her daughter’s math question, and surprisingly it had no definite answer.

Dusty Sappington had absolutely no idea how to solve the question so her daughter Izzy put a ‘question mark’ in the answer box, reported Mirror.

When the third-grader asked her teacher how to go about the question the following day, her response left her confused.

The questions reads; “Janell has 15 marbles. She lost some of them. How many does Janell have now?”

Any guesses what the answer could be? Even when Dusty posted the question on a social media group, no one was able to come up with a solution. Some tried to work out  a math equation which was too much for the eight-year-old while others started doubting their math skills.

Finally, mom Dusky revealed the answer to the homework question and guess what it was? The young girl was to ‘come up with her own answer’ according to the teacher.

Most people on the Facebook group thought it’s quite confusing for the kids. Someone didn’t agree with the ‘there’s no wrong answer’ approach but a teacher came forward and shared why this is interesting and an attempt to make kids think about things. She wrote: “I’m a teacher and would love to hear every possible solution to this question.

“I ask my kids these kind of questions every day and their answers always make me smile, my kids suggest solutions not ‘the only correct answer’ Make them think about things,” she added.

Could “she has ‘most’ of them” be the correct answer as it’s the opposite of ‘some’ or this is an example of telling kids that life doesn’t always fit formulas.
