LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan on Thursday said monarchy has been established in Pakistan and a farce is ongoing in the name of democracy, thus people should stand up for their rights, ARY News reported.

“Orange Line track is not a Line of Control whose route cannot be changed,” Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali expressed these remarks while heading the five member bench of SC hearing Orange Line Train Project case.

Lahore High Court (LHC) in a landmark judgment in August had restrained the construction of Orange Line train project within 200 feet distance of the historical sites in Lahore. The case was later shifted to the SC. The court has rejected the government plea for setting aside the LHC verdict on the project.

The plaintiff in this case said the Punjab government starts projects first and takes No Objection Certificates later. Justice Azmat Saeed of SC said loss of heritage sites would not be tolerated.

The chief justice said bad governance was being practiced in the name of good governance. The representatives elected on public votes execute work in the same manner. People should stand up against this.

The court has demanded both the parties to submit three names of experts each who will present report on heritage sites and environment regarding the Orange Line Train Project.
