MQM-L hitman gets life imprisonment for killing three religious scholars

KARACHI: A court on Monday handed down life imprisonment to a Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London’s (MQM-L) target killer for murdering three religious scholars in Karachi, ARY News reported.

A Rangers spokesperson said that MQM-L hitman Ali Hassan Zaidi was convicted in cases pertaining to assassinations of Mufti Abdul Majeed Deenpuri, a top cleric of the Jamia Uloom-ul-Islamia Binori Town Mufti Abdul Majeed Deenpuri, Hasan Shah and Mufti Salih Muhammad.

He said that Ali Hassan Zaidi was arrested by Rangers from Jacob Lines in 2013.

Mufti Abdul Majeed Deenpuri, 60, was shot dead on January 31, 2013. He was a top mufti at the seminary. He was travelling in a car with a fellow cleric when a gunman opened fire near Nursery area.

Pakistan Rangers Sindh, on July 12, had announced arrest of a notorious target killer from Karachi’s Saeedabad area.

According to a statement issued by Rangers’ spokesman, the paramilitary force arrested at least eight suspected criminals during raids across the city including a “target killer associated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London”.

The target killer named Rehan was arrested with another suspected terrorist Shahrukh from Saeedabad area of the city.
