KARACHI: In an apparent move to stop rival parties from approaching their strongholds, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) factions on Wednesday night announced to hold a joint rally in Liaquatabad, ARY News reported.

Addressing media after a meeting, MQM-P faction leaders Farooq Sattar and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that in order to stop rivals from “victimising” people of Karachi, the two factions will hold a joint rally in Liaquatabad’s Tanki Ground on May 5, Saturday.

“This will be a historic rally and will break all previous records, after this move, everyone should expect more good news,” said Farooq Sattar, the leader of party’s Bahadurabad faction.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, on his turn, said that the two factions’ decision to hold a joint rally has baffled rival parties but it is their treatment of “Mohajirs” which has united the community time and again.

The two leaders, however, did not hint upon reunion or a merger of the two factions.

It is pertinent to note here that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari strongly criticised MQM during a rally in Liaquatabad’s Tanki Ground on April 29.

Bilawal not only accused MQM of terrorism but also termed them ‘Mustaqil Qaumi Museebat’. His remarks evoked a strong response from both the factions of MQM-P with leaders speeding up efforts for reconciliation between the groups led by Sattar and Siddiqui.
