KARACHI: Mutahidda Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has postponed its ‘multi party conference’ after major political parties back off from participation at the eleventh hour.

Addressing the media about the conference postponement, MQM leader Farooq Sattar said the reason of political parties withdrawal from taking part was ‘out of comprehension.’

He said it’s a boycott of social cause that MQM wanted to address and raise

PSP leaders are still ready to attend and I thank them for their positive gesture, he said.

He, however, expressed surprise over refusal of other parties including PPP, PML-Q and ANP, to attend the gathering. “That was astonishing to note that parties told media instead of MQM-P leaders about their decision.”

We came to know about their decision through tickers on TV news channels, he added.

He vowed that his party would continue to strive against culture of corruption, oppression and rights abuses. “We will achieve our desired results very soon against these menaces,” hoped the MQM leader.

“We understand that somebody is trying to sabotage our activities for restoration of peace”, he said.

August 22 marks a year since erstwhile MQM founder Altaf Hussain made an incendiary speech to a crowd assembled outside the Karachi Press Club that led to violent clashes in the metropolis.

Following the incident, the MQM leadership in Pakistan snapped all relations with Hussain and restructured leadership to run the party from Pakistan.

Dr Farooq Sattar-led MQM-Pakistan had said that the moot it convened at a local hotel was aimed at discussing “conspiracies against the sovereignty of state, end of corruption, and powers to local bodies.”
