MQM rejects Karachi by-election results, calls party meeting today

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has rejected the by-election results in two Karachi constituencies and summoned a meeting of the party’s Rabita Committee on Monday (today), ARY News reported.

MQM-P Deputy Convener Kanwar Naveed Jameel and other party leaders in a press conference on Sunday alleged that the results were changed in the end time claiming that the MQM candidates were leading the contest with hundreds of votes earlier.

The PTI candidates Aftab Siddiqui and Shahzad Qureshi were returned elected in the by elections at NA-247 and PS-111 in Karachi yesterday.

The MQM-P while rejecting the results has convened an emergency meeting of the party’s Rabita Committee on Monday (today) to discuss the situation pertaining to the outcome of the by-polls.

Khawaja Izhar, during the press conference alleged that the results were changed after the polling process.

The MQM leader said that when we are being expelled from every place why don’t we quit the government?. “It is not compulsion for us to remain in government,” he added.

A national and a Sindh Assembly seat were vacated in the metropolis by President Arif Alvi and Governor of Sindh Imran Ismail.

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry yesterday called the victory of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates in Karachi by-elections as the public trust in Prime Minister Imran Khan and his government.

“People of Karachi have opted for national politics by rejecting the ethnicity based politics. By the grace of Allah, this will herald the bright future of Pakistan,” he said in a tweet.
