The MQM has announced to hold ‘peaceful demonstrations’ across Karachi to register its protest demanding withdrawal of ban on telecast of Altaf Hussain’s speeches.

The protest begins at 4pm today at nine different spots which are Babar Market, Landhi, Chiniot Market Korangi, Star Gate Shahrah-e-Faisal, Hassan Square, Numaish Chowrangi, Do Talwar, Regal Chowk, Five Star Chowrangi North Nazimabad, and Liquatabad No 10.

The party has also filed a petition in the court seeking removal of ban on telecasting of speeches of Mr. Hussain.

On Sep 7 last year, The Lahore High Court (LHC) had directed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and Additional Attorney-General Naseer Ahmed Bhutta to implement a ban on the broadcast of images and speeches of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain across all electronic and print media till further orders.

A petition filed by Advocate Aftab Virk in the LHC earlier last year pleaded that the ‘anti-army’ remarks made by Altaf Hussain fell under the category of treason, and that a treason case should be registered against him.
