According to sources, Siddiqui was appointed as director of KMC health department on November 28, 1997. Though he was absent from his duties and still drawing a salary amounted to Rs 40,600 per month till date.
It is learnt that the former MQM leader was appointed as 19-grade officer at Rafiqui Shaheed Hospital in Karachi and later he was promoted to the post of director. Alongside Siddiqui, 41 other employees have also been detected as ‘ghost officers’.
Health department sources told that Hammad along with other ghost employees have been fired from the job after the issue came to light.
MQM membership of Siddiqui was suspended on May 22 on charges of violation of party discipline.
He fled to Dubai a day after his party membership was suspended by MQM chief Altaf Hussain.
Meanwhile, Sindh Health Department has taken notice of the salary payment to Siddiqui in absentia. The department has ordered inquiry into the matter.
