Muharram 9th processions being taken out amid stringent security

KARACHI: The mourning processions of 9th Muharram in the memory of the martyrs of Karbala are being taken out across the country, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

Central mourning procession of 9th Muharram in Karachi emerged from Nishtar Park. The mourners will offer Zohrain prayers at Imambargah Ali Raza.

The mourning procession began in Lahore from Pando Street this morning to march through its traditional route.

Processions of 9th Muharram also being held in other cities and towns across Pakistan amid stringent security.

The central procession in Peshawar emerged from Imambargah Hussainiya to march through its traditional route.

Security has been on high alert in Quetta ahead of the Muharram mourning procession on 9th Muharram, which will begin from Alamdar road of the provincial capital city to march through the traditional route.

In Karachi the procession emerged from Nishtar Park will cross Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, MA Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, MA Jinnah Road again, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazaar, Kharadar, Nawab Mahabat Khanjee Road and will end at Imambargah Hussainian Iranian in Kharadar in the evening.

Over 6000 policemen and 2000 Rangers personnel have been deployed for the security of the mourners in Karachi.

The processions being monitored with CCTV cameras at the command and control centre apart of aerial surveillance of the mourners.

The law enforcement agencies have also posted sharp shooters at the buildings along the route of the procession. Three teams of bomb disposal squad have swept across the route of the procession.

The routes of the processions have been sealed with containers to avoid any untoward incident.

The cellular services have been suspended in most of the cities to ensure security of the mourning processions across the country.
