Municipal authorities on alert after cyclone threat

KARACHI: Cyclone ‘Nanauk’, originated in Arabian Sea, is now heading towards Oman, but civic and municipal authorities have been alerted to cope with any untoward situation, ARY News reported Thursday.

The cyclone was initially predicted to hit coastal areas of Sindh, however it has now deviated and moving towards Oman.

As a precautionary measure, the government has alerted civic bodies’

and cantonment board officials to gear up to cope with any untoward incident, if arises. Beach-goers are also asked to avoid visiting sea side as cyclone will affect weather in Pakistan’s coastal belts and develop high tides in the sea.

Sand has washed along roads next to the sea, prompting government to dispatch heavy machinery to clear it off.
