ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister of State Talal Chaudhry on Monday said that former Prime Minister Sharif’s son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar handed himself into NAB officials, dispelling an impression that he was detained after his arrival at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA).
Talking to media persons prior to accountability court proceedings, the state interior minister said the ruling party believes in the supremacy of law and arrest of Captain (retd) Safdar is sheer evidence.
Deploring NAB’s move, he said that it is beyond his understanding that why the anti-graft watchdog personnel were deployed at Islamabad airport.
“The deployment of NAB officials was unwarranted since a person was willingly returning to Pakistan to face the court proceedings against him,” he asserted.
Talal Chaudhry said the ruling party did not raise any objection to the move since it believes in the supremacy of law.
Referring to the opponents, he said that absconders are those self-proclaimed leaders who tirelessly speak on the rule of law but shied away to appear before proceedings against them.
On the non-bailable arrest warrants, the PML-N leader said it is a routine matter, which could have been avoided, adding: “Maryam Nawaz’s return has worried some political quarters.”
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb echoed similar sentiments on the occasion as she said the Sharif family members are going nowhere and all set to face the cases against them.
However, she opined that Hassan and Hussain Nawaz could exercise constitutional rights which have been granted to foreign nationals.
