NAB launches assets inquiry against another PTI MPA

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched an inquiry against member of the Punjab Assembly Ghazanfar Abbas Cheena, affiliated with the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his sources of income, ARY News reported.

Sources said the corruption watchdog has obtained important record about the lawmaker’s assets.

The inquiry is said to have been launched following approval from the bureau’s executive board.

It is noteworthy that NAB has been carrying out investigation against former senior minister Aleem Khan in assets beyond means case.

Earlier, on March 5, an accountability court sent PTI leader and former senior minister Aleem Khan to prison on 15-day judicial remand in assets beyond means case.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials produced the PTI leader before Accountability Court Judge Syed Najamul Hassan amid tight security on completion of his physical remand and requested further extension for investigation.

Aleem Khan’s lawyer opposed NAB’s plea for remand extension and said there was no need to extend his client’s remand. He said he had already submitted relevant documents with regard to Aleem’s offshore companies and other assets to the bureau.
