LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to nominate Hamza Shehbaz, son of former chief minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif, in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The reference will be filed against the Hamza and his father this month, sources informed the ARY News.

They said the formal approval for filing a reference would be given by chairman NAB Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.

The accountability watchdog has already acquired asset details and bank records of Hamza Shehbaz and Shehbaz Sharif. The NAB has also got the court permission to question the former chief minister in jail.

Hamza Shehbaz has appeared before the NAB two times in cases pertaining to accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income and Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

The NAB had launched an investigation against the PML-N leader and his brother Salman Shehbaz for allegedly amassing assets beyond his sources of income. Hamza had earlier obtained protective bail from the Lahore High Court to avoid his possible arrest at the hands of the Bureau.

Hamza Shehbaz is also being probed by the anti-graft watchdog in Ramzan Sugar Mills and Saaf Pani Company Scam.

Earlier on October 30, Hamza Shehbaz and Salman Shehbaz didn’t appeared before the NAB in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

NAB had summoned both the brothers, the directors of Ramzan Sugar Mills, over illegal construction of a bridge from national exchequer to facilitate their mills, causing the loss of Rs 200 million.
