The anti-graft body has been probing nearly 500 appointments on political basis and corruption within Pepco. Former managing director (MD) of Pepco, Tahir Basharat Cheema, CEO of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) Ibrahim Majoka and Director Human Resources Gepco are already under custody of NAB in connection with the case.

Issuing summons to Raja Pervez Ashraf in the light of investigation with Tahir Basharat Cheema, the anti-graft body asked him to appear before it and submit documentary evidences pertaining to irregularities in Pepco.

In return, the ex-PM’s legal team requested NAB for providing further details with regard to the notice it served.

Ashraf’ legal team took the stance that NAB’s notice is unclear and does not specify as to why the former prime minister is being summoned.

Earlier on May 05, NAB had apprehended the former managing director (MD) Pepco, Tahir Basharat Cheema for ‘exceeding powers’ during his tenure.

Cheema is accused of making illegal appointments in the Gujranwala Electric Supply Company (Gepco). He is also nominated in the rental power project case that involves former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
