Nandipur Power Project inauguration today    

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate the Nandipur Power Project on Saturday, ARY News reports.

Nandipur Power Project has already started to generate 100 megawatt of electricity in its testing phase.

Managing Director of the project Mohammad Mehmood, in a media briefing, said that the first stage of the power plant was completed in a record time of seven months. He further said that the deadline for its completion was December 2013.

He said the power plant was supposed to be completed in 2011 but its development work was stopped due to the refusal by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government.

“The Rs. 23 billion power plant will now be completed with the cost of Rs. 59 billion. The financial loss of the project is Rs. 165 billion”, Mehmood said.

The managing director of the project said that the project is being run on furnace oil whose cost is Rs. 23 to 24 per unit. He added that the plant will be operational on Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) in June 2015 after which per unit cost of electricity will be slashed to Rs. 17.

The project will be functional for 30 years and will be handed over to an outsourcing company for its operation. He added 500 Pakistani and 500 Chinese engineers are working day and night for its completion in December 2014.
