KARACHI: A prolific writer of literature for children, Masood Ahmed Barkati, passed away on Sunday evening after a protracted illness at the age of 87.

Barkati had been editing Hamdard Naunehal, a kids magazine, for over 50 years. He also penned as many as 20 books.

Critics said it might be a record for someone editing a publication for so many years. Barkati belonged to a learned family hailing from Tonk, in India’s Rajasthan.

He was a close aide of Hakim Mohammad Said, who owned the magazine, and a younger brother of Hakim Mehmood Ahmed Barkati, a researcher and scholar.

His funeral prayers were held at Masjid Falah, Naseerabad, Federal B Area here, after Zuhar prayers.

The literary figure survived by three daughters and a son.

Here how the people paid tribute to Barkati sahib’s literary work as a gift of their childhood.
