Nawaz Sharif holds narrow view of world politics: Zardari

HUB: Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday said that it is weakness of the government of prime minister Nawaz Sharif for failing to consult international powers to address the issue facing the nation.

Speaking to media after offering condolences to Balochistan parliamentarian Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, the former president said Sharif holds a narrow view of world politics probably due to nationalistic tendencies.

“It is a forgone truth that India is involved in Afghanistan, or else we would not face such a large insurgency,” he said.

The PPP co-chairman added that that PM Sharif should consult and involve world powers in such issues.

The former president said that he the failure of the government to address issues of terrorism and other conflicts can be gauged from the fact that it has has not appointed a foreign minister since the last four years.

‘Situation of Balochistan has not improved’

He said that the situation of Balochistan has not improved and has remained similar as during his reign when he had handed over power to Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz in 2013.

“The wounds of Balochistan are still fresh,” he said calling on the need for joint efforts between the federal government and the people to address the persisting problems of the province.

He called for investment in war-affected and economically deprived parts of the country and said that people can only be brought over by uniting them.

Taking credit for the Balochistan package and  initiating the CPEC project which he said was more focused on Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but was now focused on giving the lion’s to only Punjab.

Zardari said that people need to be taken into confidence or else the migration in the province will completely change the fabric of Baloch culture.

‘Sharif giving impression of safe Punjab’

Speaking over the decision to hold the final of the Pakistan Super League in Lahore, he said that he was not a fan of cricket but Sharif was to trying give an impression that Punjab is a safe place.

He said that he is on terms with Irfanallah Marwat but the decision to join the party is not taken solely by him but rather the central executive committee of the party.

“Somebody spread a rumour on social media and activated the Twitter brigade,” he said commenting on the recent controversy after his daughters Aseefa and Bakhtawar lashed out Marwat joining the PPP.
