JHELUM: Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif on Monday said that people of Pakistan can never vote for “cowards” like Imran Khan who take “orders from top”, ARY News reported.

Addressing a party rally in Jhelum city of Punjab province, Nawaz Sharif took a dig at political rival Imran Khan by saying that he broke all principals by sharing stage with his opponent Zardari during January’s Mall Road sit-in and then showed cowardice by taking “orders from top” while voting for Senate chairman and deputy chairman slots in March.

“People will never vote for you for you are a coward.. if you have courage, contest against us honestly.. don’t take directions from top,” said Nawaz while talking about Imran Khan.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had participated in an All-Parties Protest against 2014 Model Town Killings in January and his party’s legislators had voted for Sadiq Sanjrani in Senate chairman elections; Sanjrani’s nomination as custodian of the upper house was supported by PPP and a number of other opposition parties.

Almost a month after the election, JI Ameer Sirajul Haq stirred a hornet’s nest when he claimed that PTI received orders ‘from the top’ to vote for Sadiq Sanjrani for the post of Senate chairman.

Nawaz Sharif, during today’s speech, said that Imran Khan is breaking his “principles” and promises with his voters as he is shaking hands with Zardari despite criticising him in the past.

“Imran Khan aap haath nahii.. Dil bhi mila rhey hein Zardari say (Imran Khan, you and Zardari are not only shaking hands.. your hearts are meeting),” said Nawaz.

He also urged the crowd to vote for his party as it is the only one fighting for respect of vote and voters in the country and has delivered in the past five years unlike PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
