The government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had lifted moratorium on execution of death sentences in Pakistan after December 16 terrorist attack on Army Public School Peshawar in which around 150 people, most of them children, were killed.

After lifting of the ban dozens of death row convicts have been hanged at jails across the country as a measure to fight against terrorism.

The KP government has purchased 50 new nooses from Lahore with 75,000 rupees cost to replace the old nooses of Manila rope that were bought for the prisons 75 years ago in year 1940 during the British colonial period.
