Next polls may be delayed without timely delimitation, says minister

LAHORE: Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has expressed fears that next general elections can get delayed, if the required legislation for fresh delimitation of constituencies on the basis of the recently held census was not carried out.

In a tweet on social networking site on Monday, he said after new census constitutional amendment was a must for delimitation of constituencies for early or timely elections.

He urged the opposition parties, including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), to extend their cooperation for the constitutional amendment to hold general elections timely.

Taking a swipe at both the parties, the Minister said, “political smog has been created to pollute democratic environment of Pakistan. PTI and PPP continuously played dirty role to defame democracy.”
