Nisar for imposition of two-year security emergency

TOP NEWS

Addressing a prolonged press conference here, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan clarified that the military courts will not be used against common citizens, they will only hear terrorism-related cases in the country.

“Special courts will not try politicians, media and businessmen”, he said.

He said that the military courts operate under a formal framework, these are not kangaroo courts.

“Suspects are acquitted from the military courts, if there is no evidence found against them and there are many such examples”, clarified the minister. “No one should have a misunderstanding in this regard”.

Nisar said that the formation of special courts does not mean lack of confidence in the judiciary.

He lamented that the intelligence was shared prior to the DI Khan jailbreak, while the intelligence agencies (IAs)) had also warned of a possible terrorist attack prior to the Peshawar school massacre.

The Interior Minister suggested for the imposition of an ‘unannounced two-year security emergency’ in the country.

“Provinces will have to take up security responsibilities, while terrorism incidents should not be used for political point-scoring”, he ended.
