LAHORE: A notification stipulating Amjad Saleemi’s appointment as the Inspector General of Punjab (IGP) has been withdrawn by the Establishment Division.

In the place of Tahir Khan, who served on the post for a period of one month and two days, Amjad Saleemi was announced to be the new IGP of the province a day earlier.

Saleemi has previously worked as Sindh’s police chief.

During General Elections of July 25, on the request of Election Commission of Pakistan, the interim government replaced chief secretaries (CSs) and Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) of all four provinces in order to ensure impartial and transparent elections.

Saleemi, who was then serving as the Punjab police chief, was appointed as the Sindh IGP. However, after the polls, Saleemi was replaced with the then Punjab IGP Kaleem Imam.

Saleemi’s career

Saleemi joined the civil services on November 1, 1986.

Belonging to the 14th Common division, he was previously a grade 22 officer of Police Service of Pakistan, serving as IG National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP).

He will be retired from the service on January 31, 2020.
