Nusrat Fateh’s daughter set to take legal action against copyright infringement of his songs

LAHORE: The Late music maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s daughter is planning to take legal action against those involved in the infringement of copyrights of the Qawwal musical masterpieces.

“I am the only heir of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and the copyrights of my father’s songs are only with me,” Nida Nusrat said while addressing a news conference at Lahore Press Club on Friday.

“If anyone wants to sing my father’s songs they need to seek permission from me,” she asserted.

A company by the name of Khokar Productions was involved in the infringement of copyrights and has been sent a legal notice, said Nida.

When asked if she also plans to take legal action against Rahat Fateh Ali Khan who has sung many Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan songs for India Nida replied;

“Rahat is my brother and I will not take any action against him.”

She also took this opportunity to clear rumors saying;

“A lot of people spread rumors that Rahat and I are married but there is no truth in that,” she added.

“It’s a coincidence that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s wife name is same as mine.”

She continued, “Even the information on Wikipedia is incorrect.”

Nida said that she has established an institute named “The Real NFA” which will work to promote aspiring musicians.
