A bill was passed in the New Zealand parliament in which it was stated that any player found guilty of match fixing in 2015 Cricket World Cup will have to undergo a punishment of seven years.
Justice Collins had presented the bill in the parliament. He said that the bill was necessary to protect the sporting credibility of the country. He added that the country wants to show that it will not tolerate corruption in its sports.
“Match fixing is a worldwide issue and everyone has to play their role for stopping it”, Collins said.
It should be noted that former Kiwi cricketer Lou Vincent was banned for life when he confessed of fixing a county game in England.
New Zealand will be co-hosting ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 with Australia whereas the FIFA Under-20 World Cup will also be held in the country.
