PAF C-130 crash lands at Multan airport

MULTAN: A C-130 Hercules of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has crash-landed at the Multan airport here as one of the tires of the aircraft was burst – ARY News reports.

According to details, PAF C-130 aircraft had to land in emergency at Multan airport after one of its tires got burst, yet the jet landed safely and no damage was reported.

After the landing Multan airport has been shut for all the flights and planes will redirected to nearby airports, as long as runway of the airport is not cleared.

The C-130 Hercules has been the PAF's primary tactical transport aircraft since its induction in the early 1960s. Currently around 5 C-130B and 11 C-130E models are in service, upgraded with Allison T56-A-15 turboprops and extended fatigue lives by Lockheed-Georgia Company.

The aircraft is supplemented by 4 CASA CN-235 STOL transports, although the 4th aircraft is equipped with an interior for transporting VIPs such as the PAF Chief of Air Staff.

C-130 is a giant aircraft, also used for all kinds of air logistics support to Pakistan Army and transporting goods in calamity-hit areas, having four engines which increase its in-flight reliability manifolds.
