LAHORE: Pakistan Army martyred officer Abdul Moeed was laid to rest with full military honours at Cavalry Ground’s Shuhada Qabristan here on Wednesday, ARY News reported.
Earlier today, the funeral prayers for martyred officer were offered at Ayub Stadium amid the presence of relatives, family members, and civil-military officials.
The martyr’s mortal remains were taken to his native village in Burewala, Vehari, preceding night and brought back to Lahore in the morning for last rites.
The officer along with a sepoy, Basharat, embraced martyrdom when terrorists ambushed their vehicle in a mountainous region of North Waziristan Agency on Tuesday.
Talking to media, 21-year-old martyred officer’s father said his son has made the entire family feel proud for his martyrdom. “Our sons will continue making supreme sacrifices in upholding honour of the nation,” he said.
Sepoy Basharat, who embraced martyrdom alongside second lieutenant Abdul Moeed, will be laid to rest at his native village in Gilgit later today.
“Freedom isn’t free, it costs sons of the soil. Freedom that we enjoy today is owed to so many such brave hearts. Salute to our Martyrs,” said Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa in a statement, paying tribute to the martyrs.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, said terrorists opened fire at an army vehicle from surrounding mountains in North Waziristan tribal region.
The ISPR said 21-year-old Moeed had recently passed out from the Pakistan Military Academy and was a resident of Burewala city of the Vehari district.
Whereas, 21-year-old Basharat, who was serving in the armed forces for three years, was a resident of Danyor village in Gilgit.
Moeed’s martyrdom made us feel proud: mother
Recalling the martyr’s devotion to his family, Moeed’s mother said he made the family feel proud. The eldest among siblings, Moeed would always get gifts for them, said mother.
