Pakistan, Afghanistan agree to maintain ceasefire along Chaman border

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and Afghanistan on Wednesday agreed to maintain ceasefire on the international border at Chaman till consensus is reached over the  border dispute. 

According to Inter Services Public Relations, a one-star flag meeting was held between representatives of both countries at the Friendship Gate border in Chaman, Balochistan.

The Pakistani delegation was led by DIG Frontier Constabulary Balochistan and Afghan delegation was led by Brigadier of Afghan Border Police.

The Afghan delegation asked Pakistan to move out troops from the Killi Jahangir and Killi Luqman areas on the border before proceeding with the population census.

However, Pakistan delegation maintained that troops deployed along the international border are on the Pakistani side and shall remain there. Both sides agreed to maintain ceasefire till consensus is reached.

Earlier this month, Afghan forces opened fire along border areas killing ten Pakistani civilians and injured 42 others. Pakistan forces gave a befitting response and claimed to have killed over fifty Afghan soldiers.

The situation between both countries has remained stiff ever since the attack. Pakistan has protested over the free movement of terrorists along the Afghan border at Torkham and has unveiled plans to seal the border.
