CHAMAN: Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Aamir Riaz on Sunday said Pakistani artillery retaliated to the Afghan forces’ attack with full might and destroyed from four to five check posts of Afghanistan.
“The Afghan forces committed a shameful act by targeting innocent civilians through mortar shells,” he said talking to media persons during his visit to Chaman to review the post-attack situation in the area.
Inspector General Frontier Constabulary Major Gen. Nadeem Afzal in a separate statement said over 50 Afghan soldiers were killed and more than 100 were injured in the retaliatory operation.
It is pertinent here to mention that at least 10 civilians were martyred while 42 were injured including women and children in an unprovoked firing and shelling from Afghan side of the border in Chaman in the wee hours of Friday.
Four Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan personnel were also among the injured.
Since then, the Pakistani authorities have closed the Chaman border crossing with Afghanistan.

General Aamir said that such attacks would not benefit Afghanistan in any way and the Afghan government should be ashamed of such type of imprudent acts.
He said that such types of un-provocative attacks were in no way acceptable. He said that the Afghan government had adopted a negative approach towards Pakistan and it targeted our territory challenging our sovereignty.
However, he said, they would no more let them repeat such practice again.
To a query, General Aamir said that the Bab-e-Dosti on Pak-Afghan border would remain close till normalcy of the situation.
Replying to another question, he said that Pakistan government was trying its level best to mend the situation.
Earlier, Aamir visited Civil Hospital Chaman and inquired after the health of the people injured in the Friday’s tragic incident.
Inspector General Frontier Corps Balochistan, Major General Nadeem Anjum and other high-ranking civil and military officials accompanied him during the visit.
