Pakistan can’t be made scapegoat for others’ failures in Afghanistan: Aizaz

ISLAMABAD/ WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry Pakistan could not be made scapegoat for failures of others in Afghanistan.

“Pakistan has sacrificed a lot in the fight against terrorism and we will not allow utilisation of our land to attack anyone,” he said while speaking to an eight-member delegation of US journalists in Washington on Saturday.

Aizaz Chaudhry also said that economic statistics had improved because of the operation against terrorism and Pakistan’s security situation had also improved significantly.

He said that Pakistan was against terrorism and conspiracies. He said the country’s wrong perception needed to be discarded and it should be viewed in a new light.

The ambassador told the journalists that military operation had cleansed terror-ridden areas while developmental works were underway too.

“A positive image of Pakistan has emerged. The US and other various global partners are investing in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC),” he said.

He also reiterated that Afghanistan’s instability had affected Pakistan and the solution to the Afghan conflict lied in the hands of local stakeholders.

Aizaz said that Pakistan with other beneficiaries would work for the solution of Afghan issue while peace in Afghanistan was necessary to peace in South-Asia.

Talking about relations between Islamabad and Washington, he stated that when US supported Pakistan, it was beneficial for both countries. He hoped for a cordial relationship with the US.
