Pakistan is celebrating silver jubilee of World Cup 1992 victory today. On March 25 1992, on this day, Pakistan beat England by 22 runs at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia.

The victory chances were rare as key players like Waqar Younus and Saeed Anwar were not taking part in the tournament. The captain, Imran Khan, himself was injured in the final.

Pakistani cricket team was also nowhere in list of favourite teams as it had lost three of their first five matches in the tournament.

This could also be gauged with these remarks of Imran Khan, passed at coin toss, that he wanted his team to play like a ‘Cornered Tiger’.

It was the first major international cricket tournament that was played with white ball.

Player of the final match and leading wicket taker of the tournament, Wasim Akram, after dismissing Ian Botham, Stewart, and Hick left England team tumbling.

While the contribution of many others which led Pakistan team to Final include the performance of Inzamam-ul-Haq in the semi final of the tournament.
