Economic Survey to be launched today

ISLAMABAD: The government will launch the Economic Survey 2017-18 today to share key economic indicators and the performance of different sectors of the economy during the year.

The survey would highlight the main features of the government’s economic policies, which was resulted in macro-economic stability and growth rate of about 5.8 per cent.

The survey would cover the development of all the important sectors of economy, including growth and investment, agriculture, manufacturing, mining, fiscal development, money and credit, capital markets, inflation, debt and liabilities.

The survey will also highlight the performance of agriculture, education, health and nutrition sectors, besides showing the overall population, labour force and employment, poverty, transport and communication and per capita income, it is reported.

It would also highlight issues of environment, contingent liabilities, tax expenditure as well as economic and social indicators.

The government would also launch the annual plan, highlighting government’s preparation and planning for the upcoming fiscal year in different sectors of the national economy.

The launching ceremony of the economic survey will mark the opening of budget related events including the presentation of budget (2018-19) on Friday April 27, and the post-budget media briefing on Saturday, 28th April.

The report is expected to show a decline in poverty by four to five per cent, bringing it down from 29.5 per cent to below 25 per cent of the population.

The government will formally announce the provisional economic growth rate of 5.8% with the release of the economic survey.
