Pakistan calls for upping efforts for women’s protection in conflict zones

NEW YORK: Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN Maleeha Lodhi has stressed the need to up global efforts for protection of woman who are vulnerable to violence in conflict/crisis zones, ARY News reported.

Partaking in a debate on violence against women in the conflict-hit areas at the UN Security Council, she said that sexual abuse is used as a weapon in conflict zones.

“Women are subjected to sexual abuse in the areas like Kashmir and Palestine to spread fear and terror,” she said, adding that efforts would have to be made to ensure provision of justice to the women affected by these heinous offences.

Lodhi said justice demanded that the victim women be ensured respectful and safe future.
