According to details, two death row convicts namely Tayyab and Jaffar were hanged in Lahore and Sahiwal cities of Punjab.

Tayyab was executed in Kot Lakhpat Jail of Lahore while Jaffar was hanged in Sahiwal Central Jail over dual murder.

Tayyab killed a man back in 2002 whereas Jaffar was awarded death penalty for killing two people including a woman in 1997.

Executions deferred

While two were hanged in Punjab, Balochistan’s Machh Jail administration saw two planned executions deferred.

Superintendent Machh Jail Muhammad Ishaq Zehri told media  that two death row convicts Muhammad Ismail and Muhammad Zaman were to be hanged today. However their executions were delayed as their respective families reached an agreement with the victims’ families.

The copies of the agreement were produced before the judicial magistrate and the executions were deferred.

Pakistan lifted the moratorium on death penalty on Dec. 17, a day after Pakistani Taliban gunmen attacked Army Public School in Peshawar and killed 134 students and 19 adults.

The moratorium, in force since 2008, was initially lifted only in terrorism cases. But the government extended the order in March, directing provincial governments to proceed with hangings for all death row prisoners who have exhausted their appeals and clemency petitions.
