Pakistan imported food items worth Rs374.98bn in two months

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan imported food items worth Rs378.98 billion in the first two months of the current FY 2023-24, ARY News reported, quoting the data shared by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

According to the PBS data, Pakistanis imported tea worth Rs31.64 billion in two months as compared to imports of Rs20.23 billion during the same period, last year.

Palm oil worth Rs158.7 billion, and Soyabean Oil of Rs13.56 billion were imported by Pakistan over two months, the PBS data said.

Furthermore, pulses worth Rs48.25 billion were also imported by Pakistan during first two months of the current FY 2023-24.

Dryfruits worth over Rs2 billion were also imported during last two months, the PBS said.

It may be noted that in the month of July, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) lifted all restrictions on imports to fulfil one more condition of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The central bank issued a circular to end all restrictions on imports in order to fulfil another IMF condition.

The federal government granted permission to banks to provide remittances to release more than 6,000 containers. The SBP stated in the circular that remittances would be provided for all imports after the enforcement of the latest order.
