Pakistan lodges protest with India over frequent ceasefire violations

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Friday summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner J.P. Singh to lodge protest over continued ceasefire violations by Indian forces along Working Boundary in Sialkot-Harpal sector.

Director-General South Asia Dr. Muhammad Faisal handed over a protest note to the Indian diplomat, deploring frequent breach of the ceasefire along the Working Boundary and Line of Control, which often resulted in civilian casualties.

He said despite calls for restraint, India continued to indulge in ceasefire violations.

Faisal urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire agreement, investigate this and other such incidents, and maintain peace on the LoC and the Working Boundary.

Two women had embraced martyrdom and five other civilians including three women sustained gunshot wounds when Indian Border Security Force resorted to unprovoked firing along the Working Boundary in Sialkot on Thursday.

According to the army’s media wing, the civilians were targeted in an unprovoked cross-border firing in Chaprar sector’s Kundan Pur village.

Punjab Rangers retaliated to neutralize the Indian BSF posts, ISPR said in a statement.
